The Life of a Registered Nurse – Interview With Noel Holle

Below you will see a video project that I completed for a Video Editing class offered at Lincoln Lutheran. As a Junior at Lincoln Lutheran, through this class I have had the opportunity to create a variety of different video projects!

Personally, I decided to interview Noel Holle and take this project in the direction that I did for a couple of reasons. For one, not only did I want to know a little bit more about the everyday work and lifestyle of a Registered Nurse, but this is also something that I wanted to share with others. Especially during this pandemic, the work that these nurses have to perform has certainly changed. Through this video, I was hoping to share a little bit more about the difficulties, risks, and adjustments that came along with the Coronavirus for these frontline workers. Secondly, I also enjoy the direction that I took this video because it allowed me to learn more about my family, as well as grow in my relationship with her.

There are two distinct parts of this project that I am the most proud of. The first aspect that I enjoy is the overall audio within this piece. I enjoy how the music plays while the question is presented, and then becomes quiet while Noel is speaking.

I believe that this sound truly added to the variety of this piece. Secondly, I also enjoy the portion of the video where Noel is describing what a PAPR is, and an image and a short video clip is shown while she is speaking. Using such videos and images aids in providing a clear visual to viewers!

While I truly enjoyed making and creating this video, there were many challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges during this process was attempting to get rid of the static sound in the background of some of my clips. The audio from the GoPro that I used to film part of the interview with ended up having a fair amount of static. I was able to avoid this problem by finding a tool offered on iMovie to remove it! Another challenge that presented itself was trying to find a closing shot. Many of the clips that I had captured were very unique, but I didn’t feel that any of them wrapped up the project in a closing manner. So, I ended up having to go back to Noel’s house a couple of days later to gather pick-ups.

If I were to go back and do this project all over again, there are a couple of changes that I would have made. For one, I may have asked Noel if she had any personal images of the hospital or of her own self in protective wear. I feel that this would have added more of a personal touch on the visual aspect of this piece. Secondly, I might have also asked one of the questions over again (if I had the chance to go back). In one of the clips, their dog made a sound in the background. I did not realize that this was present until it came time to edit my video. So, I may have reshot this scene as a whole.
