Advice For Anyone Starting a Website…

Dear future Multimedia students (or those beginning a website),

After working on my website for many weeks, I am nearing completion. Below are a few tips and reminders that are important to know as you begin creating your site! I hope this helps and hopefully saves you some time!

  1. Use your time wisely! When the time comes to start your website, make sure you truly start on it right away! While a great amount of class time is given to work on your website, make sure that you are utilizing all of the time! As you near the end of the deadline, you will soon realize the importance of working hard with this time, so that you are not stressed! Also, by using this time well, your website can be exactly how you desire it to be! In all, this is a big project that will require many hours of work! As the deadline is nearing, I would suggest spending some time on the weekends if you are feeling behind!
  2. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little bit! WordPress offers many widgets that can allow your website (especially your homepage and footer) to look very professional! I would suggest spending half of a class period or so experimenting with these options to see what will truly help your website be the best that it can be! I would also suggest trying out some different options offered within each page/post. There are a variety of available ways for your pictures and text to appear, as well as some other accessories that can be added into your pages/posts! This could be a gallery, slideshow, poll, countdown, chart, and more! All of these can make your website appear very creative and unique, so I would recommend looking through/using some of them!
  3. Choosing a topic is extremely important! As stated earlier, this is a project that you will be working on for many weeks. You want to ensure that this topic is not too broad, as you may not have enough time to cover it to your liking. Also, make sure that this is a topic that you are passionate/interested in. I chose a topic that I really liked, and that made this project and writing my pages much more enjoyable (as well as saved me some time)!
